“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (Acts 19:2 NIV). Because of a lack of teaching, understanding and personal experience, many good church members would have to answer in the same way as the Ephesian disciples… “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” (v.3).

The Life in the Spirit Seminar (LISS) Manual will help create a strategy designed to acquaint the participant with the person, the work, and the power of the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Trinity), using scripture and personal testimony. Every effort is made to see that the content is both scripturally balanced and Wesleyan in nature. This LISS Manual is designed to heighten awareness of the Spirit of God working in our personal lives and in the life of the church, to remove any barriers the participants might have to the Holy Spirit moving in their lives, and to create a greater openness to the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

While reading the LISS Manual, the grace of God, the love of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit become active in the worship, the short teachings, and the contagious testimonies of faith that are shared by Bible study members. As a result, the readers discover the potential and the power of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and direct their lives into the fullness of Christ Jesus that God offers to every believer. The readers are encouraged and challenged to receive “the Promise of the Father” and to begin walking with Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit.

How to use this ARM resource for a weekend event:

Your weekend event within your local church is sharing their personal faith experiences with Jesus Christ.

  • Friday evening begins with a congregational fellowship time which often includes a covered dish dinner. This is followed by a general session with singing and team testimonies, children & youth ministries and small group discussions. After a re-assembly to hear small group reports, everyone is released for the evening.
  • Saturday includes meeting in home groups, children & youth sessions and luncheon meetings for men and women. That evening, following a covered dish meal, general sessions are again held.
  • Sunday the mission coordinator and team will be present and available to lead Sunday school and the morning worship service.  Sunday evening the church gathers without the team for a time of celebration, sharing and planning for the future.

For years, Gary L. Moore and Aldersgate Renewal Ministries have addressed these problems and others that plague many believers. Unfortunately, a lack of understanding about the person and work of the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Trinity) prevents some Christians from entering into the fullness of their inheritance in Jesus. The Life in the Spirit Seminar uses sound biblical teaching and the collective wisdom and experience of enlightened believers to bring new light to the ancient truths about the Trinity. Through this comprehensive guidebook, you too can join the ranks of those who have found fresh life and deepened their relationship with God. This book will help you: Learn how Christ’s Spirit ministers to and through us.

Aldersgate Renewal Ministries (ARM) was organized in 1978 as the United Methodist Renewal Services Fellowship, Inc. as a network of individuals and churches who are praying and working together for the spiritual renewal of the Church. The purpose of ARM is to encourage United Methodists and their churches, by the grace of God and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, to be filled, gifted, empowered, and led by the Holy Spirit in ministry to the world.
